DEATH ON THE ROCKS

Steed deals diamonds
Cathy becomes his wife*

Production completed: 15 November 1962
UK Premiere (London, Season 2): 1 December 1962
US Premiere (A&E cable): ca. 7 February 1991

A band of smugglers bent on doing away with Britain's Diamond Federation is forcing London's diamond merchants to buy illicit diamonds under the threat of losing their families. In order to root out the smugglers, Steed poses as a dealer and takes Cathy as his "wife" for the duration.

 IMHO

A fairly ho-hum affair, in general, with only some clever exchanges between Steed and Cathy to maintain interest. The low point was the fight at the smuggler's headquarters—cameras aimed in the wrong direction, music playing too loudly over muffled dialog... could have used a tad more rehearsal.

 Trivia

Some scenes were pre-recorded on 14 November 1962 in advance of the main recording.

 Best Scene

Cathy is busy decorating "their" house with some of her hunting trophies when Steed suddenly gives her a piggy-back ride to the sofa, using the excuse of the necessity to keep up the appearance of being married.
