"Bra-vo!" When General Stevens arrives to perform a spot-check on "Mad Jack" Miller's 19th Commando, he disappears, and the Avengers try to find out why. While Gambit studies warfare film footage, Purdey hits a pub near the base and is arrested. Seems old Mad Jack is planning to raid the Middle East and start WW3 by leaving Stevens' body behind to implicate the British Army. But not if Gambit, a one-man commando unit, has anything to do about it...

 IMHO

Fans of Gambit (are there any?) and violence (alas, there are too many) are in their element with this one. Plenty of clenched jaws, stern looks, fightin' words, bullets and bombs. Plus plenty of "chicka-chicka-bow-wow" music to go with all of the testosterone. Once again Gambit attempts to affect an accent—although it is so bad that it leaves one wondering just what it might be. About the only redeeming quality is a number of cute Purdey-Gambit bits.

 Best Scene

Worth the price of admission: Purdey offers her brassiere to Gambit for use as a slingshot. Gambit: "Oh—a double-barrel slingshot. Why didn't you burn this with all the other girls?" Purdey: "Didn't have to. I knew I was emancipated."

 Best Line

Worth the price of admission: Purdey and Gambit locate one another using "bird" whistles. When they find one another, Purdey asks, "Now what should we do, build a nest?" Gambit follows with, "Are you in good shape?" Pause, frown. "Silly question."
