by Pete Stampede Funnily enough, Madge Ryan was not only in A Night Out with Philip Locke, as the central character's nagging mother, but was also Australian, like Annette André (both of whom appeared with her in "Mandrake"). Even though she had an impressive resume of largely single plays on TV, notably Say Goodnight to your Grandma (1970) written by Colin Welland, and was in A Clockwork Orange, I'm afraid the part I always associate her with is that of an over-protective Showbiz Mom (with a wavering American accent) in the Cliff Richard musical Summer Holiday (1963). Constantly working, such as in a 1992 episode of the medical soap Casualty, she died in 1994. |
