by Pete Stampede and David K. Smith James Maxwell, who died in 1995, was listed in several obituaries as actually being American, although he always sounded totally British. He played the odious Osmond in a serial of Henry James' Portrait of a Lady (1967), only the second BBC series made in colour, with an imported Richard Chamberlain, and frequently repeated into the early 70's. Born 1929, Maxwell made quite a number of TV appearances including Doctor Who, "Underworld" (1978), The Saint, "The Art Collectors" (1967), and two on Secret Agent, "A Date with Doris" and "Fair Exchange" (1964). He was married to Avril Eiger. |
