Episode 122: Emma Peel Era |

I'm in a distinct minority on this one: for
some reason, it just rubs me the wrong way, in spite of a great guest actor
and some of the most notable Steed/Emma interactions ever filmed. Perhaps it
is because it bears an unfortunate resemblance to Star Trek's "Spock's Brain" when
Emma is marching 'round like a robot toward the end—makes me want
to walk onto the set in a suit of armor and start hitting people over the
head with a rubber chicken (in homage to Monty Python when a skit became
"too silly"). I also have some built-in bias against sequels, for
they rarely measure up to the originals—and this one is no exception. But
it ranked as a visitor fave, so go figure.
The original, "The Cybernauts," inspired two sequels: this one and "The Last of the Cybernauts...??" Peter Cushing was honored by the National Film Theatre.
Neville was kidnapped at the ever-popular Haberdasher Aske's School,
Elstree—see On Location for a recent view.
Exteriors of Beresford's house are courtesy of Woolmers Park, Letty Green.
Several: any time Steed got a little jealous.
Steed, referring to the toaster from the tag scene, remarks,
"That's the first thing Great Britain's ever got into orbit."
Steed attempts to repair Emma's toaster—with explosive results. |
