All episodes aired Saturdays at 7:00 PM. "Easy Money" is the only episode known to survive.
The Curious Case of the Missing Episode
Although documentation on only twelve episodes of Police Surgeon could
be found, producer Leonard White has stated in print that thirteen episodes were produced. Some sources
that list thirteen include the title "Dutchman's Reef." However, this is actually
episode 10 of the Peter Graves series Whiplash
(produced in Australia for ATV), airing 15 October at 6:30, just before "You Won't Feel
a Thing"—which was also scheduled on 29 October in some listings—a source of much confusion!
And so for years the identity of the thirteenth episode has remained a mystery.
But now this episode has at long last been identified: "Diplomatic Immunity."
The information was unearthed by Simon Coward of the
Kaleidoscope Organisation, who writes that it "was shown 15/10/60
instead of 'You Won't Feel A Thing' which was shown as per its second billing in the TV Times
on 29/10/60." The information appears in a publication on which he worked, the Independent Television Drama
Research Guide. Oddly, it is the only title in the listing with no cast
information, so Simon has promised to rummage through
his archives for anything else he can find; he is also in regular contact with Leonard
White, and has asked him to do likewise.
Applying the process of elimination, it is possible to assume that Anthony Bate appeared in
"Diplomatic Immunity" as his name has cropped up in some documents on Police Surgeon
but is not in any existing TV Times cast list. (Anthony Bate also played Earle in The Avengers
episode,
"The Curious Case of the Countless Clues.")
We owe a huge thank-you to Pete Stampede as well as Simon Coward for their relentless research,
which is helping to make
this website the most accurate information source on this forgotten treasure. |
