End of the line, so to speak. (25 January) With A&E's imminent release of The Avengers '62, they have brought to a close an odyssey that began July 1998. There were some tense moments along the way when it appeared they might not fulfill their promise to release the entire series, but with the arrival of the cover art, it's safe to say they finally did it. Kudos to A&E, congratulations, and many, many thanks for making it happen! To be honest, it's a kind of bittersweet occasion: it's exciting to see these gems finally available, but with their arrival comes the realization that it's all over now. That is, unless and until someone unearths more Avengers '61 episodes... Sneak peek. (23 January) Most folks I imagine ordered their new Bonus disc from Amazon, and that's great—using the links here supports the site. I ordered my copy from A&E because they make their stuff available a month before it hits the street. So, I'm in a position to offer up a sneak peek at the packaging, front and back, as well as the disc menus. Have a look! De Wrekers. (10 January) Remco Admiraal of Dokkum, the Netherlands has very kindly drafted a brief history of The Avengers in the Netherlands. This has made for a great update to the International Scene. Happy New Year! (5 January) The Avengers Forever enters a landmark year: September will mark its tenth anniversary. It's been quite an interesting ride—perhaps when September arrives, I'll draft a retrospective. Meanwhile, in the "old news but good news" department, just today I received an email from So Young Park at A&E, in answer to a message I sent her on 11 October 2005 begging for anything to do with their "unfinished DVD business." (See my latest IMHO for insight into why the nearly three-month wait comes as no surprise... then again, her reply is actually something of a surprise, as I'd given up all hope of receiving one.) Her message is as follows: David: Thanks so much for your patience. We are releasing the surviving Keel episodes as part of a bonus disc in our new and improved Emma Peel DVD Megaset. The bonus disc is also available on its own and it also includes The Strange Case of the Missing Corpse and the Chessboard Opening Sequence. You can order it from A&E's online store and get it a month before retail availability. Better late than never, I suppose. And now, in news of an altogether different sort, the Police Surgeon site has received an update thanks to Pete Stampede. |
