Interesting Facts... 26 February. Gastronomic trivia added for "The Nutshell", parliamentarian trivia added for "November Five" and meteorological trivia added for "The Grandeur That Was Rome". Sourced from the Manchester Evening News, ca. 1963. Venus Via Johannesburg... 25 February. There's a new Avengers radio serial uploaded today at Scott Saunders' The Avengers. This week's serial is "From Venus With Love". Don't forget you can learn about the South African radio series at TheAvengers.TV's The Avengers on the Radio. What A&E did next... 22 February. The Avengers '68 Sets 3 and 4 are now available to pre-order at The Avengers eStore. Or at least the DVD versions are. No sign of the VHS editions, but we'll keep you posted. John Thaw. 21 February. Sad news to report today. The actor, John Thaw, guest star in "Esprit de Corps", but more famous for his roles in Redcap, The Sweeney and Inspector Morse, has died of cancer. Our condolences go to John's family. Further detail is accessible via AvengerNews. Back to 1965... 19 February. Over at The Avengers eStore, you'll find that the first DVD set of The Definitive Dossier: 1965 is available to pre-order, with a release date of 1st April. No cover image as yet. This will be added as soon as it is made available to us. Also, a new trivia item about writer Berkeley Mather added to "The Frighteners". For dessert... 17 February. A minor addition to the 'IMHO' section of "Death A La Carte". Mrs. Peel... We've Moved! 15 February. A small update to the recommended links page today, because Piers Johnson of the excellent Mrs. Peel... We're Needed! has made a big update to the site, and has moved to a new address into the bargain. Several sections have been updated with DVD screengrabs and there's an incredible 720 new images in the fashion section. Update your bookmarks - Piers' site is now at http://www.dissolute.com.au/avweb/. Well done, Piers! Stunning stuff. Also, a trivia item has been added today, courtesy of Liz Eggleston, to "The Bird Who Knew Too Much". Liz runs The Emma Peel Homepage, which is attractively designed and features information and many rarely seen photos of Diana Rigg. This page has been added to the links section also. A Light in the Dark... 10 February. The David Keel era is sadly the Avengers equivalent to the dark ages, because we really know so little about it compared with subsequent seasons. Only two episodes of the original twenty-six are known to exist, and only one of these, "The Frighteners", is readily available to the public at this time. (Fingers crossed we'll get to see "Girl on the Trapeze" before the year is out.) An excellent visitor review by Frank Hui is added today, which goes some of the way to shining a light on the forgotten beginnings of The Avengers. Hear Get-A-Way!... 3 February. Scott Saunders has uploaded another of the South African Radio Serials, Get-A-Way at his downloads site, The Avengers. Remember it's only available for a week, so get in there fast! —Alan Hayes for David K. Smith |
