The true meaning of the internet. 25 April. The internet is all about connecting everyone. Unfortunately, one cannot always rely on the technology that drives it, and even less on the businesses that support it. This is another way of saying that a URL is not a permanent thing. And some are more (semi-)permanent than others. In the process of building this site, having hit most of the "free bumps" along the information highway, I have attempted to ensure its relative permanence by investing in "real" URLs and pay-for site hosts. This has led me to create TheAvengers.TV, a place that, instead of being an alternate address for The Avengers Forever (as originally intended), is now becoming the home-base for a growing family of quality Avengers sites by different people. I am extremely pleased to announce the first addition to this new family: The Avengers on the Radio. Keep your eye on TheAvengers.TV—I can guarantee that the family will continue to grow! Congratulations, Alan and Alys, on a permanent new home! Happy Tax Day (for the Yanks). 16 April. Well, as happy as any Tax Day could be. First up is a thorough bio of Neil McCarthy courtesy of none other than Pete Stampede. And here is a bit of trivia: although you may have read elsewhere that Sue Lloyd, who played Joyce Jason in "A Surfeit of H2O," is the same actor as Suzanne Lloyd, a.k.a. Barbara Wakefield in "The Murder Market," they are in fact two different people, and there is now a brief bio of each to help distinguish them. Finally, I'm sorry to say that, out of necessity, future updates of the site will be few and far between through the end of May whilst I sort through matters of "real life." MAJOR NEWS ALERT! 8 April. "Girl on the Trapeze" definitely exists! I have received confirmation directly from the archives that the episode has in fact been found. Be sure to check back often as I may soon have a chance to see it (by proxy). Meanwhile, it seems all of my various mailboxes are suddenly threatening to burst! It's just getting harder to keep up. If you've emailed me with something to post, I'm not ignoring you! It just may take a month or two to get to it (two jobs and an overseas trip to plan may have something to do with it...). At least I've been able to update the visitor reviews with 13 new entries, one of which is another Jon Woods masterpiece especially suited for fans of Charlotte Rampling. Visitor of Note at TheAvengers.TV Forum! 7 April. Donald Monat, who played John Steed in The Avengers radio show, has joined the forum, so click on over and join the fun! And just in case you're "not into discussion groups," this one is definitely different. TheAvengers.TV Forum is populated by intelligent, polite people with relevant, interesting topics to discuss. No flamewars, namecalling, seriously off-topic posts or useless jabber. I encourage you to give it a try! Little By Little... 4 April. Many new Visitor Reviews are on the way; in the meantime, here is a bio of Joss Ackland by Addison Hart. New UK Video News. 3 April. The UK is finally due to catch up with the rest of the world on DVD come 4 June. "The Avengers - The Definitive Dossier - 1967" is a two disc set that contains "From Venus With Love," "The Fear Merchants," "Escape in Time," "The See-Through Man," "The Bird Who Knew Too Much" and "The Winged Avenger." By the way... I've been receiving a lot of inquiries about James Dawe's site, The Avengers Unofficial Home Page. Whereas it appears to be offline, the URL is still valid. I do not know what is wrong—I have not communicated with James for a couple of years. I've heard rumors that he's had to move—both his living quarters and his website—and may be having some problems getting back online. |
