Catch-Up, Phase I. (30 March) I'm genuinely delighted to see the Forum getting back to normal at such a brisk pace: the first member registration occurred within seven minutes of my having thrown the switch last night. (What, were people camped out on the virtual sidewalk outside the Forum gates for the last four weeks waiting for the doors to be re-opened?) Also, within the first twenty-four hours of the Grand Re-Opening, there were over thirty new members, twenty new topics, and nearly sixty new responses. IMO, this ought to thoroughly any notions that interest in the series has died out. What do you think, Nanny Roberts? Meanwhile, I've begun wading into the backlog of website updates, feeling vaguely like someone living in the Midwest during the recent floods. Among the many items to address is the bio for John Le Mesurier: it would seem a minor debate has erupted over the number of times he's been married. Given that I simply do not have the time to do much of my own homework for the moment, I'm taking the easy way out and presenting both scenarios on his bio and letting readers decide—not the first time I've done this, either; and, given that he's a guest actor with two appearances, it's not an especially high-priority item (although this is in no way meant to diminish the importance of Mr. Le Mesurier as an actor or his contribution to the series). The long and winding road. (28 March) Things rarely go as smoothly as one might hope, or even as one might predict; even though I've moved websites from host to host before, and am aware of all the pitfalls, I was not prepared for this challenging journey. But it is at long last pretty much over. One of the results is an all-new International Forum: I regret that everyone will need to re-register all over again, and that all of the old posts are history, but as I've detailed in a new IMHO, it is probably all for the best. In particular, the shift to commercial software relieves me of the tremendous overhead of the homegrown variety, which was becoming a monkey on my back. I hope that you'll jump back into the forum and give it a fresh burst of life and energy. See you there! |
